Massdrop Review | Is Massdrop Legit?
tldr; Massdrop is the shit, I’m into it.
Is Massdrop legit? Yes.
Is Massdrop safe? Yes.
Is it a good deal? Hell yes.
Item purchased: Saint Laurent SL38 Eyeglasses
Item purchased: Bredemeijer 14-Ounce Borosilicate Teapot for One
Recently, a colleague of mine referred me to this demand-funded custom order site called Massdrop. I was a bit skeptical because I had never heard of it before and for those of you who know me personally, I’m a stickler for a fashion find that’s never at full price. In the end, I made a couple of purchases and I have not regretted it. Massdrop sent me a proper confirmation email and kept me updated with the delivery along the way. I normally hate when brands go overboard with bombarding me with emails, but because I was genuinely curious to understand how this was going to pan out, I really didn’t mind how communicative they were. In fact, I really appreciated seeing Massdrop appear in my inbox of new messages. They kept it brief, though: order confirmed, shipped, and delivered, so I never felt like it was overwhelming. They also have a really simplistic UI and communication style, so I felt like they jived with my aesthetic overall, which leant itself to me giving them a good runway of trust.
I scrolled through endless pages of dead deals just to understand what had been great finds previously and to make a quick judgment as to whether or not I should keep an eye out. Not even a minute in, I scrolled past these stunning Saint Laurent acetate glasses frames that I instantly fell in love with. A $600+ pair of YSL frames for $69.99? In! It was timely — I have been in the market for some titanium frames but never pulled the trigger, so when this came across my screen it was love at first sight. The frames have held up and weren’t shoddily glued together (which was my fear ordering from a site that I had never heard from before) and I really enjoy using them!
I also bought a stackable teapot set (clear glass) for one because I was looking for something easy to clean, but cheap, since I tend to wear out a lot of my brewing kits. This was $14.99, so I didn’t hesitate whatsoever to drop it into the cart as well. This has been one of my favorite purchases as I usually like to brew a cup of tea before bed, when I’mwinding down. The best part? I’m so freaking lazy that I can just throw each one of the three pieces into the dishwasher and it survives unscathed.
In the end, both purchases from Massdrop ended up being things that I use everyday and I’m really happy with how they turned out. All in, I’ve spent a total of less than $100 on two really high-quality items that I know will be with me until I wear them both out from perpetual usage. I know that this is going to be the beginning of me being completely addicted to the deal-finder site but oh well, it feels worth it.
The other thing I will say is that there are some really interesting categories of items. Normally when I find deal sites like this or Slickdeals.net, I usually scroll quickly because it’s mostly around tech gadgets that I can appreciate but don’t fawn after. I think they found a really good niche of audience for people who really appreciate high-quality, custom-ordered goods. There are goods from high-fashion glasses/accessories to gadgets to cookingware, all of these requested from fans of brands who really want the brand to create a specific item with its aesthetic.
If you want to give it a try, feel free to use my referral link so you get $10 off your first order. (I wish I had gotten my colleague’s referral link because after I ordered I couldn’t use the code, ugh. You live and you learn.)
Let me know if you end up finding something great!
